Social Activities 2016 to 2017

SARÁBANDA MUSIC WORKSHOP

offers individual lessons in various instruments including accordion, guitar, violin, wind instruments, and percussion, as well as group music sessions, catering to up to ten participants aged 12 to 18. We also provide lessons in the restoration, repair, and tuning of musical instruments such as accordion, organetto, bandoneon, air organs, string instruments like guitar, mandolin, bass, both acoustic and electric, and piano technology and tuning, currently supported by four apprentice luthiers, two Roma and two Italians aged 15 to 22.

Our adult group music workshop accommodates seven participants. The programme is led and coordinated by Sebastiano Spinella, a Sicilian artist of Sinti origin who has been a resident of Tor Pignattara since 2001.

From 2003 to 2007, he directed the Bande Sonore project, a music school for minors from the Roma camp in Via dei Gordiani, in collaboration with various associations and institutions within the V Municipio, alongside Daniele Sabyu, a qualified violinist.

LABORATORY THEATRE PINOCCHIO ROM
is a creative journey in search of identity and the unique talents of each child.
This experience is essential for all children, especially those in complex and challenging educational situations, living in a dual and sometimes contradictory reality of Rom life and Italian birth.
At the same time, it is a path of understanding various expressive disciplines such as theatre, music, circus arts, and puppet theatre.

The laboratory accommodates 8 children aged 9 to 12 years.

It is conducted and coordinated by Ursula Mainardi, a Roman artist, art therapist, musician, and storyteller, in collaboration with Sebastiano Spinella.

LABORATORY ELOHEH
is a manual creativity workshop focused on jewellery and accessories aimed at girls and women.
The activity aims to create a sales stall at local markets and social events, with proceeds partially benefiting the families of participants and partially covering laboratory expenses.

It includes 3 participants aged 9 to 15 years, gradually evolving. Coordinated by Ursula Mainardi.
Note: These three laboratories primarily cater to minors from the Rom community of Via dei Gordiani but are open to general attendance and include several non-Rom youths.

The principle of free activities, based solely on the volunteer work of teachers, limits the number of students to around 25 minors from local schools and neighbourhoods, including the Rom camp in Via dei Gordiani.

LABORATORY MECHATRONICS
combines mechanics, electronics, and bicycles.
It repairs electric and non-electric bicycles, computers, and general electronic devices, as well as audio systems.

To enhance environmental sustainability, Mechatronics promotes recycling materials, recovering non-functional devices, and light mobility. In this context, it is gradually reactivating the rehearsal and recording room managed in collaboration with the I.T.S. Di Vittorio Lattanzio.

It includes 7 participants from high schools, 3 of whom are in a school-work agreement.
Coordinated and conducted by Antonio Guarino, an electronic technician, in collaboration with Claudia Tifi, a cycling mechanic technician.

LABORATORY THEATRE FOR STUDENTS OF THE INSTITUTE OF VITTORIO LATTANZIO
is a theatre workshop open to students as part of the P.T.O.F. of the Institute of Secondary Education “Di Vittorio–Lattanzio”.

The workshop is aimed at young people aged 13 to 19, even without prior theatrical experience.

Participants are encouraged to reflect on the proposed exercises and are prompted to gain a comprehensive understanding of the theatrical activity initially conducted unconsciously through play. In the final phase, participants will work on staging an original text, Pinocch’io, a show that blends comedy, absurd theatre, and puppet theatre, inspired by Collodi’s “Pinocchio,” with masks and puppets created by Tiziana Tassinari, to be presented during the end-of-school-year celebration in June 2017.

Led by Luca Ruocco (DoppioSenso Unico Company) and Sebastiano Spinella.
Short training courses are organised in collaboration with other associations aimed at young adults from the Rom community.

ELEMENTS OF EDUCATION AND CARE FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD
runs from January to April 2017.

The course works with young children and their families in contexts of social fragility.
Its goal is to break mechanisms of marginalisation and self-exclusion, promoting skills to address the specific educational and care needs of early childhood in urban contexts of social fragility. It activates internal resources within the local communities of the children involved. Using active and experiential methods, it proposes a training path aimed at young people from contexts of social fragility that promotes basic skills in the education and care of young children (3-6 years) and supports families in these processes.

The course also prepares young trainees to operate as facilitators in structured educational contexts.
Six young Rom, including four from the Gordiani community, have received a certificate of participation.

Coordinated by Simone Zamatei – ABCittá Cooperative Association.
Local coordinator: Sebastiano Spinella.

LIVING LIBRARY
runs from May to June 2017.

Training meetings prepare for the event to be held at the Vaccheria Nardi Library on Saturday, June 24, morning (approximately 10-14).
The first Italian edition dedicated to the theme 2G (second-generation immigrants). Living Library is a format that allows addressing prejudices and stereotypes through the biographical narration of specially trained individuals as Human Books. Here are some details about the path and the event of the Living Library, along with some useful links for further exploration.
